LPG stands for liquefied petroleum gas and generally refers to propane and butane gases.
LPG is either derived from the oil refinement process or from natural gas refinement. Worldwide production of LPG stands at 180 million tons (1997), and 61% of that, or 110 million tons is supplied through the process of natural gas refinement. There are high hopes for LPG as an oil-alternative clean energy.

| LPG, by comparison, exhibits far superior combustion efficiency than other gases. It is a form of clean energy that emits almost no SOx (sulfur oxide), known to cause acid rain, and very little CO2 (carbon dioxide), said to result in global warming. |

Even if your household gas pipe facilities are not affected, if the main pipelines that supply gas up to that point are damaged in a disaster, then you are no longer able to use utility gas.
However, as LPG is separately supplied, even in the event of a disaster, LPG supply can be quickly restored, as only your household pipe facilities need be repaired.
